Anna Brekken, Teen Entrepreneur, Speaker, and  Creative Writing Pro

Anna Brekken is a teen entrepreneur and speaker with a passion for creative writing. She believes everyone has an important story to share, and creative writing is the tool to uncover your voice, and “stand out in a sea of information.” Anna believes so strongly in this that her 2022 TedX Youth @Cherry Creek presentation was on how to teach creative writing skills in the writing classroom. It’s one of the best ways to give students a real life skill useful for business.

 

In fact for the 2022 Denver Startup Week Anna is presenting Disruptive Corporate: Creative Writing for Small Business. You won’t find this in any curriculum for undergraduate or graduate business courses. Anna shows business owners how to use creative writing techniques to give a business brand personality. By the way, did I mention Anna is 15 years old? I forget how young she is when I watched the YouTube video of her TedX talk. I was to caught up in the information I was learning.

There’s more to Anna’s story than just her passion for creative writing. While the middle school she attended discouraged creativity Anna’s grandmother encouraged it. One day Anna’s very creative grandmother showed her how to make handmade greeting cards. This inspired Anna to give it a try. The seed was planted for Anna to start an Etsy shop. She opened AnnaMade Design Co. with just three designs. Since 2018 Anna has created over 150 cards for her Etsy shop. When asked what keeps her going she responds that all she needs to do is look at her card making and design supplies and becomes inspired with new ideas.

Soaring Together

Through her business and Instagram Anna has met amazing young entrepreneurs. After connecting with them she realized most of these young business owners were experts at making their products. It was a different story with the business side of things. Anna decided to start Soaring Together, a community of resources to help other teens reach their business goals.  Anna also organized a four-day online event for teen business owners, two years in a row. There were over 200 teen attendees and 15 speakers. They were huge successes and she plans to do another in 2023.

 WED CO 2022 (Women’s Entrepreneurship Day)

Anna is part of the planning committee for the Fourth Annual WED CO Summit on November 18 at CU Denver School of Business Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship. This year’s summit will bring together high school girls from the Denver metro area to learn from accomplished female entrepreneurs. She will be leading a breakout session on confidence building skills like, public speaking, writing with personality, active listening, and storytelling.

Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is the world’s largest entrepreneurial and financial empowerment initiative. It is dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and empowering women worldwide.Internationally 144 countries and 65 universities and colleges celebrate WED. (With a growing global legion of 333 global ambassadors activated in every continent). It is celebrated in major U.S. metropolitan cities.
