Why Master Effective Communication Skills?

Why Master Effective Communication Skills?

Mastering Effective Communication Skills Will Influence Your Success

You’re very competent and, it’s essential to create a dynamic, expressive persona that radiates authenticity and uniqueness. You want to communicate with clarity both verbally and with the written word. However, you may not be connecting with people although you are talking to them or connecting through an email, letter, or social media post. Perhaps the disconnect is from not understanding the other person’s communication style. It could also be what you want is something another person considers unacceptable. Perhaps it’s time to take a look at your communication skills.

IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT! THAT’S RIGHT, IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT

Communication Disconnect

In school you’ll learn science, history, math, and English.Yet, the schools don’t teach you how to connect with each other, let alone those who can help you reach your goals. In fact, most people don’t learn the necessary communication skills to build solid relationships. The majority of problems within friendships, school, and life, in general, could be prevented with upfront, honest, and respectful communication. We never learned communication skills in school, not even in college. I did well with writing letters. How I verbally communicated with people, especially with other girls in high school and part of college did not connect well.

In high school I wanted so badly to be in a certain sorority. It was hard to talk with the girls even though I knew many of them. I didn’t get accepted to that club. I joined another one and never really made good friends with the other members. The same happened to me in college especially with my teachers and the girls in the dorm when I attended Oklahoma State University. I quit at the beginning of my second semester. I then tried to talk my father into letting me attend a fashion school in New York City. The problem was I begged him rather than have a two- way conversation. Pleading with him just didn’t work. I pretty much threatened to quit college if he didn’t let me transfer to the University of Tulsa. He did only because I was so head strong.

COMMUNICATING TO CONNECT

Mastering how you communicate will make a positive difference in realizing your visions for a business, school, and career. In fact communicating to connect will influence how others will want to help you reach your goals. In some cases this may even mean do they want to become friends with you. I finally began to learn some communication skills at the University of Tulsa through my sorority sisters and some of our advisors. Too bad I didn’t learn the skills for communicating to connect before I talked to my father about attending school in New York City. The good news for you is that you,Yes You can learn how to communicate to connect. Using your time while in high school to connect with others will improve the quality of your relationships. And it will vastly influence your success-right now!!

“A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.” Madonna

Mastering effective communication skills takes more than reading a book and practicing what the book says. It’s more than talking to your teachers, friends, or parents to find out what they think about your communication skills. It took me years to understand the importance of being able to truly connect with others. Many of you probably know the quote by Madonna. That was me for so so many years as a young adult. When I was in new environment I was afraid to say what I wanted. However when I surrounded myself with professionals who knew more than me, I learned to speak up in a confident manner and tone of voice. That didn’t mean I always got what I wanted. When I didn’t get what I asked for I sure didn’t feel like a failure or beat myself up.

Top performers like Oprah Winfrey, Metallica, Richard Branson and Leonardo DiCaprio know that to become successful and stay on top it takes mastering new skills. They also know there are limiting mindsets to overcome. The 10 most common ones are Procrastination-Fear of Failure-Imposter Syndrome-Low Confidence-Overwhelm-Uncertain Payoff- Fixed Mindset-Little to Show Externally At First-Harsh Self-Judgment-Feeling Unnatural. The first five are what girls tell me gets to them. The five were my challenges also. They didn’t come all at one time. It depended on who I wanted to talk with, where I was, and what I wanted. Reading a book about each or all the limiting mindsets won’t solve your problem. Coaching is the answer. It can be as a group or individually.

HOW COACHING IS THE ANSWER, IT’S AN EDUCATION YOU WILL NOT GET IN SCHOOL

A coach will support you learning the skills of mastering effective communications and will keep you accountable each step of the way. Coaches will also give you new tools and techniques that will help you gain the confidence to develop your own communication capabilities. Coaches love giving young women techniques on how to express themselves clearly verbally, in writing and online. That’s one of the most important communication skills to use in today’s world. Coaching will help you see yourself more clearly.

Our Communicating To Connect To Realize Your Visions Coaching Program is tailored to your specific communication needs and schedule. We’ll create with you a roadmap to determine the steps for you to reach your goals and maximize you true potential. Your coach will help you see yourself clearly. You’re given a workbook that doubles as a journal. It’s designed to guide you to become an exceptional communicator and connector. AND if you want to have group coaching with two or three friends we will work out a plan for each of you and give you exercises to practice together. You can find out more information and the fee structure on our Google Docs page.
